Manaslu Trekking region offers a variety of trekking options. It is located in the Mansiri Himal, part of the Nepalese Himalayas, in the west-central part of Nepal. Its name, which means “mountain of the spirit”, comes from the Sanskrit word manasa, meaning “intellect” or “soul”. The popular Manaslu trekking route of 177 kilometres (110 mi), skirts the Manaslu massif over the pass down to Annapurna. The Nepalese Government only permitted trekking of this circuit in 1991. The trekking trail follows an ancient salt-trading route along the Budhi Gandaki river. En route, 10 peaks over 6,500 metres (21,300 ft) are visible, including a few over 7,000 metres (23,000 ft). The highest point reached along the trek route is the Larkya La at an elevation of 5,106 metres (16,752 ft). As of May 2008, the mountain has been climbed 297 times with 53 fatalities.

The Manaslu Circuit trek is far less crowded than other classic treks in Nepal and remains a true remote adventure, despite its increase in popularity since teahouses were built here in 2010!

Testimonials

  • Just wanted to throw out a small plug for Ganesh and Gabish – a father and son owned trekking company in Nepal. In 2013, Susanne and I were lucky enough to have Ganesh as a guide for our quiet two week hike through the Tsum Valley. He really is fantastic at his job and has an amazing singing voice (a bonus on long days of hiking)!!! Many trekking providers are not owned by their guides, so your money does not always go into the pockets of those that work the hardest. If any of you guys out there are considering a holiday to Nepal or know someone who is, you should get in touch with Ganesh and Gabish at Nature Hike Nepal – https://www.naturehikenepal.com – and hopefully Ganesh will be free to show you around !! – Dan and Sussanne

  • We trekked with Ganesh in November of 2014 when we did the Everest Base Camp trek for our honeymoon. What an amazing experience! Ganesh was so knowledgeable, friendly and trustworthy.

His English is great and he is a very good communicator. He took such good care to make sure we had a wonderful experience. When we started the trek, Ganesh was our guide. By the time we finished the trip, Ganesh was our friend. I’ve recommended Ganesh to several friends that visited Nepal after us and they all share the same feedback about Ganesh. He is fantastic!! – Mary Messer
